What is a pump track and how do you ride it?
A pump track is a circuit that loops back on itself and includes rollers, banked turns and jumps. Riders hit the circuit by using momentum of 'pumping' instead of pedaling. Track features are utilized to gain speed with the aim of going as fast as possible. Pump tracks are used mostly by BMX or a mountain bike riders, but you can ride almost anything on it.
For Red Bull UCI Pump Track World Championship events, most racers are on BMXs, dirt bikes or mountain bikes. At this level, bike set-up is of upmost importance to get marginal gains to win on the track on race day. Tire pressure, wheel size and suspension settings also play a part.
