Kings Mountain 150th Anniversary Birthday Bash

But before we dive into the festivities, let's take a journey back in time to the early days of Kings Mountain. Meet William Andrew Mauney, one of the town's earliest settlers, who built a store on this very site circa 1870, opened the first store, was the first postmaster, builder of the first cotton mill, and pioneered in the banking business of that general section. W.A. Mauney also cut many paths and roads through the wilderness. When Mr. Mauney relocated his business to downtown Kings Mountain, he transformed the store into his home, making it the oldest unaltered residence in town. Restored with love and care by the Kings Mountain Historic Homes Preservation, Inc. in 1999-2000, this historic gem is a testament to their past.
