Daniel Meggs Memorial Junior Championship

One of the foundation's notable achievements is the hosting of the Daniel Meggs Memorial Junior Championship at Catawba Creek Golf Club, set this year for August 12-13, 2024. This championship stands as a tribute to the late Daniel Meggs and embodies the spirit of community, mentorship, and accessible golf. The event brought together young talents from across the region, showcasing their skills, determination, and sportsmanship.

HV3 Foundation Youth Golf Tournament at Catawba Creek

Golf isn't just a game; it's a pathway to character development, resilience, and personal growth. Harold Varner III, a professional golfer on the LIV Golf Tour, understands this better than anyone. Born and raised in Gaston County, he learned the game's value and the challenges it poses firsthand. To give back to his community, Harold established the HV3 Foundation with a clear vision: to make golf accessible to young athletes regardless of their financial constraints.

HV3 Foundation and Youth Golf

Harold Varner III's journey from a local municipal golf program to the professional tour is an inspiring testament to the impact affordable access can have. With the HV3 Foundation, he aims to counteract the rising costs of sports participation by offering financial aid for equipment, after-school programs, instruction, camps, and more. He firmly believes that affordable access is the key to growing the game and inspiring young players to pursue their passion.

"I am certain if I did not have the junior program at Gastonia Municipal, I wouldn't be playing a sport I love," Harold reflects, emphasizing the pivotal role such programs play in shaping the future of aspiring athletes.

The HV3 Foundation Mentor Program

Launched in 2021, the HV3 Foundation Mentor Program collaborates with First Tee Greater Charlotte to nurture young girls and boys into responsible, successful adults. With 42 mentors and 60 mentees in its first year, the program focuses on creating lasting impacts off the course. As Harold Varner III puts it, "impacting the lives of kids has such a lasting effect," highlighting the foundation's commitment to holistic development.

Affordable Access Through Youth on Course

One of the foundation's most significant initiatives is subsidizing rounds of golf through Youth on Course. By providing junior golfers with the opportunity to play rounds for $5 or less, the HV3 Foundation is breaking down financial barriers and enabling young players to experience the transformative power of the sport. This collaboration with Youth on Course is cultivating a community of passionate, skilled young golfers who gain essential life skills both on and off the course.

Golfing Opportunities in Gaston County

The HV3 Foundation is actively involved in creating accessible golfing opportunities for children in Gaston County. Through partnerships with Cherryville Country Club and Woodbridge Golf Course, the foundation offers kids and families a chance to enjoy golf at affordable rates. These locations serve as a testament to Harold Varner III's commitment to making golf accessible to all, irrespective of background.

The Winners of 2023

The winners of the Daniel Meggs Memorial Junior Championship at Catawba Creek Golf Club on August 7-8, 2023 championship, Ryan Curran and Mary Elizabeth Harrison, demonstrated exceptional prowess on the course. Ryan Curran, hailing from Waxhaw, N.C., showcased remarkable skill with a score of 5-under-par, totaling 135 over two days. Mary Elizabeth Harrison of Cary, N.C., displayed remarkable composure, finishing with a score of 5-over-par for a two-day total of 145. Their performances captured the essence of the championship and the foundation's mission.

A Grateful Community and a Visionary Athlete

Harold Varner III's dedication to his hometown and his vision for the HV3 Foundation are exemplary. By breaking down financial barriers and offering mentorship, the foundation is nurturing future leaders both on and off the golf course. Gaston County, along with the broader golfing community, is indebted to Varner for his unwavering commitment to empowering youth.

As the HV3 Foundation continues to grow and expand its reach, it's clear that Harold Varner III's legacy will extend far beyond his accomplishments as a professional golfer. His dedication to accessible golf and mentorship is shaping the next generation of athletes and leaders, creating a brighter future for all.
