BrightStar Grill
in Mount Holly
Inconspicuously tucked away in a residential area in Mount Holly, North Carolina, BrightStar Grill is a nostalgic, diner-like burger joint that's a hidden gem. You might need your GPS to find this off-the-beaten-path eatery, but the journey is well worth it for those seeking the best burgers in Gaston County.
Most Popular: A Lottaburger
One of the secrets to BrightStar Grill's enduring popularity is its take on the Lottaburger, a hefty creation that lives up to its name and has been a crowd favorite for decades. This burger features two juicy quarter-pound hamburger patties on a warm hoagie roll, topped with two slices of American cheese, slaw, ketchup, tomato, and pickle chips.
However, the Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger is the true showstopper. Six pieces of crispy, savory bacon adorn a juicy beef patty freshly ground daily, making it a culinary masterpiece that beckons burger enthusiasts from far and wide.
KISS Method
At BrightStar, owner Kurt makes sure they stay true to their roots adhering to the "KISS method" (Keep It Simple Stupid), a straightforward approach has kept people flocking from miles around to savor their mouth-watering burgers.
Carolina Style vs. BrightStar's All The Way
Patrons can have their burgers any way they like, but two styles have emerged as the go-to choices. The Carolina Style, found in North and South Carolina is done the traditional way loaded with slaw, homemade chili, mustard, and onions, and embodies Southern comfort. Another favorite of the regulars of BrightStar is their burgers done "All The Way", featuring slaw, tomato, pickles, and ketchup. A satisfying crunch with each bite.
Refreshing Beverages and Sweet Endings
No visit to Bright Star Grill is complete without a Cherry Lemon Sundrop! Sun Drop has been a popular citrus soda bottle in Gaston County for over 50 years until 2016. BrightStar adds its special syrup and tops it off with two maraschino cherries and a slice of lemon. It's a refreshing beverage that perfectly complements any menu item. Another local favorite, Tony's Ice Cream, has recently been added to the menu. After indulging in a hearty burger, get a scoop for a sweet finish.
Award Winning Best Burger
Voted Best of the Best in Gaston more than once taking best burger in 2017 and Community Choice Award in 2020.
Home of the World's Only Restaurant Radio Station
Yep! You read this correctly. Inside BrightStar is an in-house radio station that plays tunes ranging from classic rock to country hits. The restaurant occasionally hosts guest DJs, adding a dash of excitement to the dining experience. You can even download the app and listen to the live streaming at home, extending the Bright Star Grill experience beyond the restaurant's walls.
The history of BrightStar dates back to the 1960s when RJ and Mildred opened it as a drive-in surrounded by houses and off the beaten path. In 1998, Kurt's father moved his restaurant, Neighbors, from nearby Stanley and renamed it Neighbors Bright Star. Over the years, the name was simplified to the Bright Star Grill. In 2014, after Kurt's father's passing, he and his wife Jennifer took over the reins.
The Bright Star Grill has been a beacon of delicious food and warm hospitality in Mt. Holly for over six decades. We highly recommend our visitors make time for a stop at this beloved establishment, which promises a memorable dining experience that keeps you coming back for more.
