Belmont, The Brewery Capital Of Gaston County
Updated: Nov 11, 2020
Welcome to Belmont, a walkable downtown with more culinary, craft beverage and shopping destinations that you could possibly visit in one day!
Two of the most recent additions to the community are Jekyll & Hyde and Primal Brewery. Both offering craft-brewed beers and uniquely different food choices.
Jekyll & Hyde
Jekyll & Hyde presents a unique dining experience with chef tailored selections inspired by traditional English, Irish and American cuisines. Take a walk-through the regions only Steampunk gastropub and brewery where you will find a large selection of freshly brewed beers, wine for any palate, and signature craft cocktails.
“Jekyll & Hyde is a family-owned and operated taphouse, brewery and grill. The goal is to bring people together to offer a dining experience not available anywhere else!” says Frank LaFragola, owner of Jekyll & Hyde Mathews and Historic Belmont.
Jekyll’s dining room offers a traditional English pub feel with a touch of steampunk décor. The kitchen serves traditional and not so traditional English/Irish/American plates such as Sheppard’s pie, fish and chips and our homemade bread pudding. Some other traditional and signature dishes include CAB center cut steaks, CAB hand pattied burgers and tasty flatbreads. All dishes are made from scratch with only the freshest ingredients.
Hyde’s bar brings the steampunk design a step further with reclaimed wood and metal art. The Belmont location adds a brewery to the J&H brand. Offering 50 craft beers on tap featuring some of North Carolina’s hottest breweries. Jekyll and Hyde’s wine selection will please the most sophisticated wine drinkers. If you crave craft cocktails, that’s their specialty!
Primal Brewery
Primal Brewery, founded in 2013 by David Hoy and Ray Steimel, began serving craft beer in Huntersville. Less than a year later, Primal was named North Carolina Brewer of the Year at the North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival.
On May 8th, the Founding Fathers of Primals’ fermentation will fling open the doors, (for curbside pickup) and begin service from the new Historic Belmont Brewery.
Queuing off the warmth and feel of the Huntersrville location, the new three-story restaurant, production, packaging, and taproom is put together with attention to details that will make this a go-to gathering place for locals, as well as a destination for beer travelers from around the state.
To complement the award-winning beers that will be produced in Belmont, Primal has acquired Tim “The Brew Chef” Schafer to head up the culinary creations to be served onsite. Tim “The Brew Chef,” is a nationally recognized beer personality and a leading authority on cooking with beer. Heck, you can drop the “beer personalty” Tim is an all-around personality!
Come to Belmont, spend a day or two, and come hungry!
