Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 20, as the new McCord Family Park in downtown Lowell is set to host a sizzling event that promises to be a feast for the senses. With a BBQ Cookoff competition, free samples for the public, and live music by the talented Caleb Davis, this event is not to be missed! Join the Lowell community as they gather to celebrate their love for mouthwatering barbecue, vibrant music, and an unforgettable day outdoors.

BBQ Cookoff and Judging
The day's highlight will be the BBQ Cookoff competition, where skilled pitmasters and grill gurus from the area will showcase their culinary expertise. As the tantalizing aroma of barbecued goodness fills the air, participants will vie for the prestigious Lowell's BBQ Champion title.
The Lowell Community Committee and guest judges, including renowned establishments like Hillbilly's Steaks & BBQ and Kyle Fletcher's BBQ & Catering, (both found on the Gaston County Cue Trail) will meticulously assess each entry. The judging will occur between 11:00-11:45 am, ensuring that every participant's masterpiece receives a fair evaluation.

What's a BBQ Cookoff without free samples? As a gesture of appreciation to the public, attendees will have the opportunity to savor delectable bites from the participating cookoff teams. Prepare your taste buds for a flavor extravaganza as competitors show off their secret blends of sauces, rubs, and techniques. It's a chance to discover new favorites or find inspiration for your next backyard barbecue.

We are excited to have Catawba Riverkeeper selling various types of beer at this event. Look for them at our music in the park later this summer.
For the Kiddos:
In the center of this intimate park will be a kids' play area perfect for yard games, corn-hole, and dancing. FRIOS Gourmet Pops food truck will also be available with sweet treats for kids of all ages.

Before the BBQ Cookoff, between 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm, will be the grand opening ceremony of McCord Family Park in downtown Lowell! Lowell Public Works built this magnificent park exclusively using American Recovery Funds HARPA saving tax dollars. This park is set in the heart of downtown Lowell and creates the perfect venue for this momentous event. Conveniently located at the intersection of West First Street and North Main Street, this park offers a picturesque setting with its lush greenery. It is an ideal spot to gather with loved ones, savor mouthwatering barbecue, and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere that embodies the spirit of Lowell.
