Ghillie Dhu’s Enchantment “Tree Spirit”

801 Fern Forest Dr.

Gastonia

Emphasizing the significance of trees in Gastonia's character and identity, the public art selection committee suggested using a tree as the design basis, leading the artist to explore creating a large outdoor kinetic sculpture that gracefully moves in the wind. Located in a pedestrian-friendly area with diverse viewpoints, the abstract aluminum sculpture, named Ghillie Dhu's Enchantment, glistens as a tree-like form at rest and comes alive with magical and irregular gliding movements when the breeze sets its branches in motion. The title pays homage to the Scottish folklore guardian spirit of trees, connecting to Gastonia's Scottish roots.
