FIRST TEE OF CHARLOTTE HV3 MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The HV3 Foundation mentor program was created in 2021 to help develop girls and boys into productive adults. Working with First Tee Greater Charlotte, the program has grown to 42 mentors and 60 mentees in its first full year. “I think it’s important that no matter what I do in my professional career, if I didn’t have an impact off the course, then I probably didn’t do my job, and impacting the lives of kids has such a lasting effect” said HV3 Foundation Founder and President Harold Varner, III. HV3 INVITATIONAL Each Spring, the Foundation partners with the Carolinas Golf Association to conduct the HV3 Invitational. The entry fee to the tournament is heavily subsidized by the Foundation so each player can experience this “tour quality” event at an affordable price. In addition to that generosity, numerous juniors are granted complimentary entry fees. The first event in 2019 had 65 participants but was expanded to 160 competitors in 2021 and 2022. The HV3 Invitational has become the biggest and the best tournament of the spring season. LEARN MORE
DANIEL MEGGS MEMORIAL
The HV3 Foundation started the Daniel Meggs Memorial Junior golf tournament in 2020 in memory of Daniel Meggs. Daniel, a close friend of Varner’s, grew up in Charlotte, N.C. and had a successful junior golf career earning him a scholarship to Wake Forest. After college, Daniel shared his knowledge of golf as the Director of Instruction at TPC Piper Glen. Meggs loved working with junior golfers, and so an idea for the tournament was born. In May of 2017, Daniel was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. Although he fought courageously for over two years, Meggs passed away in February 2020. In its first three years, his namesake tournament has enjoyed the participation of more than 100 junior girls and boys. LEARN MORE
